MATERIALS NEEDED
10 stems of English Lavender
1 metre (1 yard) satin ribbon (narrow) in purple or lilac
cotton thread
Strip off all the side shoots, leaving the top flowers intact.
Gather the stems in a bunch and a piece of cotton thread to tie the flowers together at the bottom of the flowered end. Turn the flowers around so that the flowered end is facing toward the top and the loose stems are facing downwards.
Place one end of the ribbon at the base of the flowers, just below the cotton thread. Keep it intact with one hand as you gently start weaving the rest of the ribbon (anti-clock wise) in and out of the flowered end of the stems - ensure that the first row is as close to the wool line as possible. Continue to weave downward, in neat rows - make sure that the ribbon is weaved firmly and keep close to the previous row.
When you reach the end of the flowered part, use a piece of cotton thread to fasten the ribbon to the stems. Cut off the ribbon, then use a needle and thread to bind the ribbon. Use the left over ribbon to tie a bow around this last row.
Snip the stalks to ensure an even line.
