Throwing a party should be fun for everyone, including the host. Here’s how to throw a successful party and enjoy it at the same time.
1.) Have more than enough food and drinks. The focus of every party, no matter what the occasion, is what’s to eat and what’s to drink. It’s always better to have more than enough of everything rather than worrying about running out of a certain drink or food. A lot of things, like pop and chips, can always be returned to the store for a full refund. For food or drinks that cannot be returned (alcohol usually cannot), be sure to buy what you like. That way, when the party is over, nothing will go to waste.
2.) Have an assortment of entertainment. A volleyball net, board games, television, and playing cards are a few things that can entertain just about anybody. Leave these things out in the open or turned on before people arrive so that they can help themselves to whatever their pleasure. This way, you don’t have to be everywhere at once to entertain everybody.
3.) Have a CD player with an assortment of music to choose from. Some people like country. Some like classic rock. Others like slower music. If you don’t have an assorment of music, borrow some from friends. The wider range of music, the more everybody will enjoy themselves.
4.) Have plenty of places to sit. If you’re serving a meal and need tables and chairs, rent some. Tables and chairs are extremely inexpensive to rent. Rent more than you may need just in case you get some people who come that you didn’t expect. You want people to be comfortable. You don’t want someone getting a big plate of food and drink, only to have to walk around the house and not be able to find anywhere to sit.
5.) Allow the chips to fall where they may...literally. If someone spills a drink or gets crumbs on your couch, so what! If you run around the house trying to clean up after everybody as the party goes on, you will run yourself into the ground before it’s half over. People aren’t going to purposely make a mess of your house. And if they spill a drink, they will probably clean it up themselves. Just let the food fall and worry about it after the party or in the morning.
The botton line is to plan ahead. The more prepared you are, the more relaxed you’ll be. The more relaxed you are, the more fun you will have.
